Wakesurfing Charters in Long Beach, CA, Where the Water Runs Flat

A wakesurfing charter is a boat rigged to throw a surfable wave, plus the boards, the vests and the captain who shapes it. Wakeboarding, waterskiing, and tubing run from the same boat in the same booking. It suits mixed groups best. Nobody needs experience or their own gear, and the wave is adjusted to whoever is riding, so a first-timer and a regular can share the same four hours.

What Is a Wakesurfing Charter and Why Does It Matter?

A wakesurfing charter is a private boat booking where the boat, the boards and a captain come together for an agreed block of time, and your group rides behind it. Wakesurfing itself means riding the wave the boat throws off its stern. The boat runs slowly at around 9 to 13 miles per hour with extra weight loaded to one side, which pushes up a long rolling wave. You get up holding a short rope, then throw the rope back in the boat and surf under your own balance.

Cobalt Charters runs wakesurf charters across this protected water and the harbours around it, with a captain on every trip. Wind direction changes the picture through the day, and knowing which stretch stays smooth once the sea breeze fills in is the difference between a good session and a choppy one. Our pricing is published rather than quoted, at $1,400 for four hours with boards, ropes, vests, fuel and captain included, and we hold five star ratings on Google, Yelp and Boatsetter for anyone who wants to check us before booking.

Our Services

Wakesurfing is the most requested charter we run, but it is one of five. If your group wants something different from a day of riding, these are the other options available on the same boat.

Wakesurfing Charters

The full towed watersports session, covering wakesurfing along with wakeboarding, waterskiing and tubing. Everything needed is aboard, and the captain adjusts speed and wave shape rider by rider so a first timer and a regular can share the same four hours without either being short changed.

Scuba Diving Charters

Boat support for certified divers who have the training and want a platform to dive from. We run your group out, keep the deck clear for kitting up, and hold position on the surface until everyone is back aboard.

Boat Lessons

Structured instruction rather than a recreational day out. This covers learning to handle a boat properly, including docking and close quarters manoeuvring, and it also covers coached watersport sessions for riders who want a focused block of teaching rather than a social charter.

Corporate Team Building Charters

Boat days planned around a working calendar, with invoicing, catering arrangements and a written weather contingency agreed in advance. Watersports work well for teams, and we scale the intensity to the group rather than assuming everyone wants to ride.

Private Boat
Charters

Occasion led bookings for birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette parties, anniversaries and family days. The emphasis shifts from riding to the event itself, though the water toys stay on board if anyone wants a turn.

Benefits of Our Wakesurfing Charters

The captain finds the flat water for you: Sea breeze along this coast builds through the late morning and usually shifts direction by lunchtime, so the smooth stretch at 9am is rarely the smooth stretch at 2pm, and the captain moves the boat accordingly.

All four towed sports in a single session: Wakesurfing, wakeboarding, waterskiing and tubing all run from the same boat on the same booking, so nobody in the group is left watching a sport they do not want to do.

Every board, rope and vest is already on board: You do not rent equipment separately or bring your own, which also means beginners are not learning on gear that happens to be the wrong size for them.

Legal safety requirements are handled as standard: California requires an observer at least 12 years old watching the rider with an orange flag while towing is under way, and we staff that role rather than asking a guest to cover it.

A price that does not change at the dock: Four hours is $1,400 with captain, fuel and all water toys included, and no equipment charge or fuel surcharge appears at the end of the day.

Call or text (562) 533-7635 with your date, group size and rough experience levels. Whether we are teaching four beginners.

We pick the time and the water

We will usually push you towards a morning slot, because the surface is glassiest before the afternoon breeze builds.

Arrive and ride

The boards, ropes, vests and tubes are already loaded and the boat is fuelled. You bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and food.

Wakeboarding Charters in Long Beach

Wakeboarding is the faster, more athletic cousin of wakesurfing. The boat runs at roughly 16 to 24 miles per hour, the rider stays attached to a rope between 55 and 75 feet long, and both feet are locked into bindings. Instead of a rolling wave you want a firm wake with a defined lip, because the point is to use it as a ramp.

We switch the boat configuration mid session for this, changing speed and ballast to firm the wake up. Beginners spend the first few attempts learning to let the boat pull them up rather than fighting it, which is the single most common mistake. Once that clicks, most people are riding across the wake within their first session.

Waterskiing Charters in Long Beach

Waterskiing is the oldest of the four sports and still the one that teaches balance fastest. Long Beach has genuine history here. Marine Stadium, dredged out of Alamitos Bay and used for the rowing events of the 1932 Olympics, hosted the World Water Ski Championship in 1961, with around 9,000 spectators on the closing day. The city still describes it as one of the premier water skiing facilities anywhere.

We start beginners on two skis with a wide, stable stance and a slow pull, which gets most people upright far sooner than they expect. Skiers who already know what they are doing can move to one ski and ask for more speed. Either way the observer is watching from the transom with the flag ready, so a fall is spotted immediately rather than a few seconds later.

Inner Tubing Charters in Long Beach

Tubing needs no skill at all, which makes it the part of the day that includes everyone. Children who are too small to get up on a board, guests who would rather not learn a sport, and anyone who just wants to laugh for twenty minutes can all get towed. Two riders can usually go at once, which tends to turn it into a competition.

The speed is entirely yours to set. We start gently and only build up if the people on the tube are asking for it, and we back off immediately if they are not. Because tubers cannot steer, the captain plans the turns rather than reacting to them, keeping the tube well clear of wake, traffic and anything moored.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, within reason. Every person being towed wears a Coast Guard approved life jacket, which California law requires and which keeps you floating comfortably while you wait for the boat to circle back. Inflatable belt style devices are not legal for towed sports, so we carry proper foam jackets. That said, you should be comfortable being in deep water, because you will spend time floating between attempts.

Areas We Are Serving

We are based in Seal Beach and run wakesurf charters throughout the protected water of Long Beach and the harbours either side of it. Some areas suit riding better than others depending on the day, and travel time affects how much of your booking is spent on the water rather than getting to it. Tell us where you would like to launch and we will be straight with you about whether it is the right call for the conditions.

Huntington Harbour and the water behind the Long Beach breakwater are usually the safest bets for wakesurfing. If your date looks windy, we will suggest the harbour most likely to stay smooth.
