Boat Charter in Marina del Rey, CA, for Teams and Celebrations
Most of our Marina del Rey work is company bookings and client hospitality, arranged by somebody organising it on behalf of other people rather than for themselves. That changes what matters. Quotes, invoices, guest travel and arrival logistics count as much as the boat itself, and all of them are handled here rather than left to you.

Boat Charters Serving Marina del Rey and the West Los Angeles Coast
Marina del Rey sits about thirty miles from our Seal Beach base and is the only Los Angeles County harbour in our service range apart from the wider LA market itself. It is an unincorporated community managed by the County Department of Beaches and Harbors, built around an 804 acre harbour laid out in basins running off a single main channel.
We run charters here from the Basin H and Fiji Way side across to Burton Chace Park and out past the Marina Peninsula and Silver Strand. Guests reach us easily from Venice, Playa del Rey, Playa Vista, Westchester and Culver City, which is a large part of why this area works so well for company bookings.
Services Available in Marina del Rey
Wakesurfing Charters
Towed watersports run outside the harbour in Santa Monica Bay, since harbour speed limits make anything else impossible. The run out through the entrance channel is straightforward. Boards, ropes, vests and tubes are provided, and the captain sets up the wave for each rider.
Scuba Diving Charters
A dive platform for certified divers, launching into Santa Monica Bay. You bring certification, tanks and personal gear, and we supply the boat, deck space and surface support. No instruction is provided, so this suits established buddy pairs and dive groups rather than newcomers.
Boat Lessons
Marina del Rey is a useful teaching harbour because the basin layout gives you repeated turns, narrow fairways and a great deal of docking practice in a controlled five knot environment. Popular with west LA owners who keep a boat here and want to handle their slip without an audience.
Corporate Team Building Charters
This is the strongest fit in Marina del Rey and the reason most of our bookings here exist. Playa Vista, Culver City and Westchester put thousands of employers within a short drive. We handle written quotes, invoicing, catering coordination and a documented weather contingency so the person organising it has one contact throughout.
Private Boat
Charters
Celebration charters suited to the harbour rather than fighting it. With amplified music not permitted, the bookings that work here are anniversaries, milestone birthdays and family gatherings where the point is conversation and good food rather than volume. Bring your own catering and decorations at no extra cost.
What Makes Boating in Marina del Rey Different?
Two local rules shape a charter here more than anything else. First, amplified music is not permitted in Marina del Rey, apart from the county run summer concert series. That single rule changes what kind of event works. A loud party charter is not the right fit for this harbour, while a corporate day, a client lunch or a conversation led celebration is ideal. Second, the speed limits are tiered rather than uniform. The main channel is limited to five nautical miles per hour, while the entrance channel allows up to eight.
Anchoring is not permitted anywhere in the harbour and there are no mooring buoys, so the day is built around moving water and dock time rather than dropping the hook. It is also a no discharge harbour, meaning everything stays aboard until a pump out station. None of this is difficult, but it does mean Marina del Rey rewards a different kind of booking from Newport or Dana Point.

How Significant Is Marina del Rey as a Boating Market?
The figures are substantial for a community of only around 11,400 residents. Marina del Rey was formally dedicated in April 1965, built by the Army Corps of Engineers on former marshland fed by Ballona Creek, at a total cost of about $36.25 million for land, construction and initial operation. Today it is the largest man made small craft harbour in North America, covering an 804 acre site split almost evenly between land and water, with more than 4,600 slips across 23 marinas managed by the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors.
The harbour generates close to $60 million a year in revenue for the county, and more than 200 individual businesses in the area support somewhere between 6,000 and 8,000 jobs. The infrastructure includes a 2,340 foot offshore breakwater, a main channel running two miles at about a thousand feet wide, three miles of side basins and eight miles of concrete bulkhead. Commercially this matters because demand here comes from a dense, affluent Westside population and a large local business community rather than from tourism alone, which is exactly why corporate and celebration bookings dominate.
Is a Boat Better Than a Meeting Room for a Marina del Rey Team Day?
Most companies booking a team day in west LA are choosing between a hotel function room, a restaurant private room and a boat. They are not equivalent. The table below compares them on the factors that actually determine whether the day works.
| Factor | Boat Charter | Hotel Function Room | Restaurant Private Room |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost basis | Flat rate for the boat | Usually per head plus room hire | Per head plus minimum spend |
| Can people slip away | No, the group stays together | Yes, lobby and corridors | Yes, bar and street |
| Catering control | Bring your own caterer | Usually in house only | Fixed restaurant menu |
| Phone and laptop pull | Low, people disconnect | High, work stays close | Moderate |
| Memorability | High, people talk about it | Low | None |
| Weather dependency | Yes, needs a contingency | None | None |
| Best group type | Small teams and leadership | Large all hands sessions | Formal client dinners |
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, within the harbour noise rules. Marina del Rey requires noise to be kept to a minimum between 10pm and 7am, and the harbour is ringed by apartments and hotels with sound carrying straight across the water. Daytime and early evening music is fine, we will ask you to lower it near berthed boats and residences, and anything amplified needs to wind down well before the 10pm threshold.
Usually fifteen to twenty five minutes outside peak traffic, which is what makes Marina del Rey practical for a half day corporate booking. Teams from Santa Monica, Westchester and El Segundo are similarly close. We recommend an early afternoon start so people arrive before the evening traffic builds on the return.
Not inside the harbour. Anchoring is not permitted anywhere in Marina del Rey and there are no mooring buoys available. If your group wants to stop and swim, we plan that for outside the harbour in Santa Monica Bay, conditions allowing. Tell us when you book and we will build the day around it rather than improvising on the water.
We coordinate it rather than provide it. You choose the caterer, often one already on your company approved supplier list, and we handle timing, dock delivery and storage aboard. Marina del Rey has an unusually high concentration of restaurants nearby, so options are plentiful. Send us dietary requirements and headcount early so we can plan space and cold storage.
We agree the contingency in writing when you book, not on the morning. In practice we monitor the forecast and contact you early if the outlook is poor, so you can tell your team with proper notice. Corporate groups get more warning than casual bookings because rescheduling twenty diaries is not something anyone can do at short notice.

What Other Marinas and Coastal Areas Can We Serve?
Marina del Rey is the northern end of our range. Everything else we cover sits south along the coast, and if another harbour better suits your group or your travel we can start from there instead.
Long Beach is the closest alternative to the south and has no restriction on amplified music, which matters if your event needs it. Dana Point is the furthest and best suited to open ocean days.
